Khaplu Valley Cultural Trek

Khaplu Valley Cultural Trek

5 Days • Ghanche, Baltistan • Easy

About This Trek

Khaplu is the quieter, eastern side of Baltistan. Where Skardu can feel busy and connected, Khaplu feels like a step back into a slower, more traditional mountain life. This short trek links villages along the Shyok River and its side valleys, walking on irrigation paths, village lanes, and gentle hillsides rather than glaciers or high passes. Each night is spent in a local guesthouse or homestay, giving a direct connection to the families who live here. Mornings begin with fresh bread and tea, days are spent walking through apricot orchards and terraced barley fields, and evenings bring conversations around a stove. The walking is easy, the altitudes are moderate, and the emphasis is on culture, landscape, and hospitality rather than endurance. The trek is ideal for travellers who want a genuine taste of Baltistan without committing to a long or strenuous expedition. It also combines well with a few days in Skardu or a visit to Deosai.
