Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek

Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek

8 Days • Nanga Parbat, Diamir • Challenging

About This Trek

Nanga Parbat stands alone. Unlike the clustered peaks of the Karakoram, it rises directly from the Indus valley as a single colossal mass, earning it the name Killer Mountain and a reputation as one of the great alpine objectives of the twentieth century. This trek approaches the mountain from the north, using the famous Fairy Meadows as a base and continuing to the base camp beneath the Diamir Face. The journey begins with one of the most dramatic jeep rides in Pakistan, climbing from Raikot Bridge to Tato Village on a narrow track cut into the mountainside. From Tato a forested trail leads to Fairy Meadows, a grassy plateau at 3,300 metres that feels like an island of green beneath the ice wall above. A further day of walking takes you to Beyal Camp and then to the base camp itself, where the full scale of the mountain becomes overwhelming. At eight days the trek is shorter than the Karakoram giants, but the terrain is steep and the altitude gain is rapid. It suits fit trekkers who want an intense mountain experience without committing to three weeks in the wilderness.
